Mental Health Awareness Month: Pause. Check In. Care for You.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder that taking care of our minds is just as important as taking care of our bodies.
Many of us move through our days on autopilot. We answer emails, care for others, meet deadlines, and keep pushing forward. But when our mood shifts, our patience shortens, or our energy suddenly changes, those are often signs that our mind is asking us to slow down.
Mental health check-ins are one of the simplest and most effective ways to become more self-aware before stress turns into burnout.
Throughout your day, pause and ask yourself:
What am I feeling right now?
What happened that may have triggered this emotion?
What do I need in this moment?
The goal isn't to judge yourself; it is to understand yourself.
When we regularly check in with ourselves, we recognize emotional patterns sooner, make healthier decisions, communicate more effectively, and respond to stress instead of simply reacting.
Three Wellness Check-In Tips
✔ Pause for 60 seconds before your next meeting.
✔ Name your emotion instead of ignoring it.
✔ Give yourself permission to meet your need even if it's just five minutes of quiet.
Remember: awareness is the first step toward healing.
